Kora, accordion, and violin? Yes please. These are three of my favorite instruments, and it turns out, this surprising combination gets along extremely well. Led by visionary jazz violinist Regina Carter and featuring kora player Yacouba Sissoko and Will Holshouser on accordion, this album makes me very happy. My favorite song is Nteri, which translates to “friendship.” No wonder it's been the perfect balm for this long, socially-distanced year.
What are other albums you love that feature never-before-heard combinations?
