NATE MAYLAND is equally at home playing in the Broadway pit of Beetlejuice, on stage playing lead with the Birdland Big Band and the Chico O’Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, or with classical groups such as The Knights Orchestra or The International Contemporary Ensemble.
He has played tenor trombone, bass trombone, and tuba on fifty Broadway chairs and has recorded with Hugh Jackman, Epic Low Brass, Kelli O’Hara, Harry Connick, Jr., Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes, Lang Lang, Josh Groban, and on dozens of jingles for television. In NYC, he has shared the stage with stadium favorites Pete Townshend, Billy Idol, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu and many others.
Nate is currently performing and recording with Jennifer Wharton's BONEGASM, a jazz ensemble featuring John Fedchock, Alan Ferber, Nate Mayland, and Jennifer Wharton, plus a stellar rhythm section. The group has just recorded their second album Not A Novelty and the release date is scheduled for April 9th, 2021.
Television appearances include Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Late Show with David Letterman and Stephen Colbert, the pilot episode of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, and a tremendously fun experience playing the Charlie Brown teacher, (harmon mute not plunger!) live on The President Show.
Nate studied with the legendary Edward Kleinhammer of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and completed an undergraduate degree in Orchestral Performance at Indiana University, where he studied under David Baker, M. Dee Stewart and Scott Hartmann.
